Elmer Gertz, aged 93, died April 27, 2000, in Chicago. Mr. Gertz, who received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School, was nationally known for his devotion to civil liberties and individual rights causes. Active in civic affairs, he was the author of more than fifteen books, several radio plays and numerous articles for newspapers and periodicals. A member of the Club since 1961, he served as chairman of the Committee on Arrangements and Exercises in 1968-69, chairman of the Committee on Officers and Members in 1976-77, and president of the Club in 1977-78. He presented twenty papers.
