Louis E. Kovacs, aged 87, died May 27, 2002 in Santa Barbara, California. Born in
Duquesne, Pennsylvania, Mr. Kovacs received a Bachelor of Science degree from
the University of Chicago in 1936 and an MBA from Harvard University in 1938. A
biochemist, founder and CEO of Vitamins, Inc., he was a pioneer manufacturer of
vitamin and mineral supplements. Always looking for new and better products, he
had received patents for the extraction of edible oils. His oils were supplied
to medical researchers in the earliest medical studies for the reduction of
human sernm cholesterol. A member since 1960, he
presented two papers.
