Faye S. Yates, 68, died July 28, 2006, in her Lake­view apartment. She grew up in Detroit and studied English and psychology at the University of Michi­gan. After graduation, she went to the University of Wyoming, where she taught and also received a master's degree in English. After a short stint as a sports writer for a small local newspaper while living in Ames, Iowa, she became an English professor at Iowa State University and later held a public relations position there. For the past five years, she was vice president of development and communications at The Wetlands Initiative, a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Chicago that is dedicated to wetland restoration. A member of the Literary Club since 2003, she was a talented writer with a wide range of interests.
