Geza deTakats was born in Budapest and received his M.D. there in 1915. He received
further advanced degrees before traveling to the United States on a Rockefeller Foundation grant.
He settled in Chicago in 1925. He held many distinguished positions in vascular medicine at
Northwestern and the University of Illinois, and was known as the father of vascular surgery in
Chicago. A prolific writer, he wrote at least three major medical texts, over 250 papers in
scientific journals, several privately published books of short stories, and many limericks. He
joined the Club in 1963, was president in 1971, and presented nine papers.
