Arthur Goldberg rose from Maxwell Street origins to national prominence, first as a labor lawyer with the CIO and United Steel Workers. He was appointed Labor Secretary by President Kennedy, and later to the Supreme Court (1962). He resigned in 1965 to become Ambassador to the United Nations, returning to private practice in 1968. He joined the Club in 1945 and wrote two papers.
